Planning a wedding can be both exhilarating and exhausting, with countless details to consider—from choosing the venue and menu to finalizing décor and seating arrangements, not to mention attire and beauty preparations. Amidst all the decision-making, the most crucial aspect is to savour the joy of your special day. To offer some guidance and inspiration, we reached out to some of our favourite past brides and experts for their top tips on making wedding planning a bit smoother. As Maya Angelou beautifully said, “Love recognizes no barriers; it jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination, full of hope.”

“Don’t forget, this is YOUR day and hopefully you only get one, as much as you want your guests (and parents) to have the best experience, keep in mind what in the end matters the most to both of you, what makes you and your husband happy. Also, communication is key between everyone, you can never have enough lists, enough charts and enough reminders.” What Kaylyn says rings so true, there is never enough but being mindful of what it is all for will definitely make it all worthwhile!

We love this guest list rule from Theknot.com (https://www.theknot.com/content/expert-wedding-planning-tips-and-tricks) they say, “Pare down your guest list with the “tiers of priority” trick. Place immediate family, the wedding party and best friends on top of the list; follow with aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends you can’t imagine celebrating without. Under that, list your parents’ friends, neighbours, coworkers and so on. If you need to make some cuts, start from the bottom until you reach your ideal number.”

Staying organized is key as Marisa and Branden explain: “We don’t even know where to begin! Planning your wedding is something that takes so much time, effort and a lot of attention. We had a clear vision of how we pictured the day to look and feel like and little by little we took care of things on our to do list as the months went on. Staying organized is so important. The staff at LiUNA also helped us so much and were always readily available to assist especially when we needed help and guidance during the few months leading up to the wedding. Those months felt like they went by so quickly leading up to the big day. We would definitely encourage couples to enjoy that time as much as possible without feeling stressed or burnt out from all the planning. In the end it will all be worth it!”

“Don’t feel like you’re in this wedding planning process alone. Consult with your partner along the way, as their opinion is bound to be invaluable, and—even if they’re only involved in some aspects—it makes wedding planning that much more fun when you can make decisions together. What’s more, working toward a common goal not only further bonds your relationship, but also helps you grow as a couple with every issue you tackle as a team.” We couldn’t agree more with Brides.com

Pratik and Desiree said, “Overall our biggest piece of advice we have would be to trust your vendors – they are experts, have done this stuff hundreds of times, and have great ideas and solutions to problems that they have seen time and time again. Trying to dictate too much can introduce complexities that make everything more stressful for everyone. For example, people really complimented our design choices but 99% of that was us nodding along enthusiastically at our design vendor’s suggestions – and they really delivered!
We would highly recommend, where possible, a wedding planner or at least a day of planner. I can’t tell you how amazing ours were – they took all the stress out of the day for us by keeping the itinerary flowing and insulating us from any issues that may have cropped up (honestly, from our perspective nothing went wrong during the event – if anything did, we had no idea!). If only I could go back in time and tell myself the night before the wedding how smooth everything would go – I’d probably get a lot more sleep!”

We don’t mean to toot our own horn BUT our staff is pretty amazing as Mara notes “One of the greatest resources we found while planning our wedding was the staff at LiUNA Station! Michele was always available to chat with us, offer advice, and work through all the details of our wedding reception with us. My advice to soon-to-be-married folks would be to accept/ask for help when you need it and listen to the advice of the experts, they have your best interest in mind.”
