While LIUNA Station is mainly known as a venue for weddings and private social events such as graduation ceremonies and school proms, corporate conferences and galas, we also host many public events throughout the year. Here’s a quick look at some of the most recent events hosted by LIUNA Station that were open to the public and a few upcoming ones as well.
2016 Innovation Nation Conference and Robotics Competition

The Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation (CSii) hosted the annual Innovation Nation Conference and Robotics Competition in LIUNA Station’s Grand Ballroom this year. This year’s speakers included President of the Canadian Space Agency Sylvain Laporte, Deputy Chief Scientist for the International Space Station Kirt Costello, and Distinguished Engineer for IBM Richard McDonald. Astronaut Cady Coleman was the keynote speaker for this annual scientific symposium and robotics competition amongst a host of other international thought leaders whose stories showcased ideas and innovative concepts that open us to a world of possibilities and fuel change.
Following the conference the robotics competition took place in our Continental Ballroom where children and young adults competed for top prizes with their robotic innovations.
Mandela in Hamilton
Grandson of Nelson Mandela, Ndaba is known as the torchbearer for his grandfather’s legacy. He is the co-founder and co-chair of Africa Rising Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting a positive image of Africa around the world through the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Mr. Mandela will appear at LIUNA Station, thanks to Hamilton-based organization Empowerment Squared, on the evening of Tuesday, July 5, 2016 to deliver a keynote speech about his inspiring work empowering young people across the continent, his grandfather’s legacy, and Empowerment Squared’s work to collaboratively transform an entire community with the development of the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville, Liberia.
