Happy Friday the 13th, folks! At Liuna Gardens, we are just so excited it’s Friday and that we get to spend the weekend celebrating more extraordinary events with our even more extraordinary guests! However, for some, Friday the 13th (and the number 13 in general) is a sign of bad luck and ought to be avoided! Does a Friday the 13th that falls in October (the same month as Halloween) make it that much spookier?!
We wanted to understand why the number 13 gets such a bad rap. We did a little bit of digging to find out…
·       According to some schools of numerology, the number 12 is “perfect” and “complete” leading some to believe that the number 13 must be unlucky
·       There is a superstition that 13 letters in a name means a person is cursed
·       Zoroastrian tradition predicts chaos in the 13th millennium
·       For all of the football fans out there, Superbowl XIII was a particularly bad one for bookies

Movies like the American horror classic Friday the 13th continue to ingrain the notion that Friday the 13th is a date to fear! Whether you get those creepy vibes from this date or not, there’s certainly no escaping it –Friday the 13th happens at least once every calendar year.
When it comes to wedding planning, some couples have thought twice about hosting their event if it falls on the 13th!  We have seen brides who have purposely skipped over the number 13 when assigning their table numbers, and we even had a bride rework her ceremony set up to avoid having 13 rows of chairs! They say the first year of marriage is the hardest, so we suppose it makes sense that newlyweds don’t want the added stress of potential bad luck on day 1!
On the other hand, we are told that the number 13 can be quite lucky for some. We have an employee who firmly insists that good things ALWAYS happen to her on every Friday the 13th and she has worn the number 13 on her sports jersey since she was a kid and has a pretty stellar collection of championship trophies to prove it!
No matter what number we see on the calendar, at Liuna Gardens we like to make the most of every Friday of the year, and on this very infamous Friday we’d like to wish nothing but GOOD luck and a GREAT weekend to you all!
