They say a picture is worth a thousand words. On the day of your special event, full of emotions and wonderful memories, what better way to capture the best of it, than through photographs you’ll be able to cherish for years to come? A growing trend in the wedding and event industry is the use of non-traditional approaches to photography. Couples are opting for fun, creative ways to capture their most special moments.
We recently caught up with Diana Cukina, Owner of Chronical, which specializes in custom photo booths, to find out the ingredients for a perfect photo booth photo, what makes Chronical unique and why you should consider including a photo booth into your next event!
LS: How did you get started in the photography business?
DC: I spent many years working in the hospitality industry, I loved my work but felt it wasn’t what I was meant for. I needed a new start and thought about my hobbies. I know right, it sounds funny but if you stop and think about it, your hobbies are the things you love to do. I looked where I spent most of my time, energy and money and that was photography. So I took photography courses, took a step back from my job and started working with a photography company shooting weddings. I did this for a few years and then decided it was time to branch out and start my own business.
LS: Tell us a little bit about Chronicle?
DC: Photo booths can be beautiful, the images can look amazing and backdrops and props can be high quality and complement your event. I really wanted to create a photo booth I would want for myself. Chronicle photo booths are everything I think a photo booth should be and I’m constantly looking for ways to make the experience even better.
LS: Why should individuals incorporate a photo booth into their wedding or event?
DC: That’s a no brainer because they’re fun of course. Photo booths are really about capturing the fun, excitement and experiences your guests are having at your wedding or event. They are also a great place to show off your hot date! 😉
LS: What makes Chronicle photo booths unique?
DC: All the items used for Chronicle photo booths are of high quality from the backdrops to the props to the prints. I’ve often been told by people who come into the booth the quality is like nothing they have ever seen before. As a professional photographer, the final image is incredibly important. I choose to use beautiful lighting and every image is edited before they are posted and given to clients. Having a live photographer has its advantages as well. Some being guests not needing to scramble between photos to change props and everyone is included in the frame. Being open air the backdrops aren’t limited to fabric and can be three dimensional. Want to incorporate balloons, frames, flowers or furniture? We can do that.
LS: What are the ingredients for a great photo booth photograph?
DC: A pinch of imagination and a willingness to be silly.
LS: What is the most extravagant photo booth backdrop you’ve been asked to create?
DC: I haven’t been asked by anyone to do anything extravagant just yet but I am hoping there is someone out there who will. I welcome the opportunity to really challenge my creativity and see what we can come up with.
LS: What is your favourite part about being in the business you’re in?
DC: Honestly all of it. Photo Booths are perfect for me. I love photography, I love to be silly and weird, I love people and I love how this is a creative outlet for me. Every wedding and event are different this brings so much opportunity to be creative. I’m smiling thinking up ideas for quotes, backdrops and props. I’m smiling while shooting and I’m smiling when I edit. People dress up and they want me to photograph them looking ridiculous –how amazing is that?!
