Capturing your precious memories! LIUNA looks at trending videography techniques.
In light of the ever-changing and uncertain time we are facing in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic, health professionals advise all of us to #stayhome as much as possible and take care of our mental and physical health. Planning for a future social event or wedding can be a fun way to break up your time, today, we are looking at some fun and timeless videography trends for weddings and other social gatherings. Capturing your heartwarming memories on film will create lasting, beautiful memories to be shared through the generations!
Capture your story – your way! Honeymoons.com says, ‘all filmmakers are story-tellers. By hiring a wedding videographer, you’ve allowed them into your life to help write yours.’ We couldn’t agree more! Make sure you research, research, research to find a videographer capable of delivering on YOUR vision and make sure to give them as many details as possible about your relationship and your wedding to ensure your wedding film is uniquely you!

Make a movie – not just a documentary of the day! Easyweddings.com says, ‘Instead of a dry documentary, just showing the events of your wedding day as they unfold, many videographers are using film making techniques to create a movie, with plot lines, characters, conversations and moods. They are also paying more attention to the soundtrack to ensure it conveys the feel of your wedding and helps to tell the story.’ If you decide to go this more creative route, make sure you give your videographer a lot of direction – favourite songs, must capture moments, inside jokes, and so on. By taking this time, you will ensure your movie showcases your love story perfectly well.

Wedding bloopers! We love a good blooper reel and having hosted our fair share of weddings and events; we know bloopers bring joy to the guests and bridal party (and LIUNA staff) alike. Videopixie.com says, ‘everyone enjoys laughter. That is what this wedding video trend is attempting to take advantage of. During the course of the wedding day, there will undoubtedly be embarrassing and hilarious moments that are caught on film. The bloopers usually play at the end of the video, as the credits role.’ So, if you are ready to remember the lighter side of your wedding, plan for some hilarious outtakes!

A fun edition that can happen days or years after the wedding: Trash the Dress Video! The Knot TheKnot.com says once the wedding is over (and if you don’t intend to donate, sell or store your dress of course) it could be fun for some brides to film a fun ‘trash the dress’ video. With this video, the options are honestly endless and best to use your own creative ideas to get started on planning. The Knot suggest, ‘brides jump in a puddle of mud, let kids put their sticky little hands all over it, or rip it to shreds with their friends – this video is all about having fun’. There is also the classic romantic scene in a body of water or check out this amazingly creative shoot we found by Christina All Day click through to see all the amazing images from this fun, family-centric shoot. This idea certainly isn’t for everyone but it can be a whole lot of fun.

One thing is for certain, whatever type of film you choose to create for your wedding or social event make sure that the videographer understands your vision and what you want to create. AMV Weddings notes that ‘Editing is how film makers tell their story after the event. It is an awesome way to organize the couple’s moments in a way to reflect the emotions of the day. By far the most important reason to make a wedding video is to be able to watch and re-watch this very important day of your life with family and friends.’ So, remember, when filming it’s important that you and your loved ones are captured in a way that you will be happy with for years to come.
From our family to yours – please stay home during this uncertain time – work on your event dream boards, get your spring cleaning done early, video chat with loved ones – let’s all continue to do our part to ensure Canada stays well during this world-wide pandemic.
