Today we celebrate the hard working, selfless, committed and successful women we call Mom.
Whether you are one, know one or love one, we’d like to take the time to appreciate all of the special women working to make this world a better place.
Liuna Station recently caught up with a couple of rock star “Mom’preneurs” who seamlessly juggle family life and their growing businesses.
Liuna Station: Tell us a little bit about your business?
Maria: Sweet Avenue Cakery is a custom, artisan, wedding cake and special occasion cake studio serving the Hamilton, GTA and Niagara regions. All of the artisan goodies are baked from scratch and to order only. I put a great emphasis on quality, which is in the center of all of my creations – scrumptious and visually stunning cakes and desserts are what Sweet Avenue Cakery is all about.
Rita: mint lavender + lace is a luxury stationery business that specializes in Wedding Invitations, Day-of Stationery (menus, table numbers), Seating Charts, and Stationery for Bridal Showers and other events as well. It’s my pride and joy! mint lavender + lace combines my creativity and my passion for beautiful paper goods!
Liuna Station: Tell us why you became a Mom’preneur?
Maria: I am a very family oriented person and the ability to spend time with my kids had always been one of the main forces shaping my life. Becoming a Mom’preneur, although challenging and not easy at times, was just a natural step towards the flexibility that allows me to fulfill two important aspects of my life – being a mom and having a fulfilling career.
Rita: I became a Mom’preneur so that I could live my passion everyday and still have a career that supported motherhood and allowed me to enjoy increased time with my daughter! I didn’t just want a “job” – I wanted something I could be proud of building myself from the ground up, while still having quality time with my family. mint lavender + lace has provided me the life I’ve always dreamed of having!
Liuna Station: What is one piece of advice you would give other Mom’preneurs in the event and/or wedding industry?
Maria: Bigger isn’t always better. Find a business model that works for YOU and allows YOU to be fulfilled as a mom and a career woman.
Rita: You are capable of doing anything! Don’t settle, and have courage follow your dreams!
We’d like to thank Maria of Sweet Avenue Cakery and Rita of mint lavender + lace for sharing their inspiring Mom’preneur stories and we’d like to wish all of the other hard working Moms out there a very happy Mother’s Day. Keep up the amazing work!
