Can you believe it’s already the middle of August?! The summer has been flying by, but here at Liuna Station we’ve definitely been soaking up all of the love and memorable events taking place at our venue weekly. No matter the season, our goal is always to provide our guests with first class service, five star dining and a beautifully unique experience. With that being said, we are always working to grow, improve, and raise the bar of excellence at every opportunity. We love hearing from our guests and we want you to know that we are listening! We thought it would be great to share some feedback that we have received from guests who have taken part in events at Liuna Station and encourage you to reach out to us or leave a review on our Facebook page. Check out what our guests have been saying about Liuna Station below.

Mouthwatering Meals!

I wanted to thank you for all of your attention to detail for my daughter’s wedding. My guests are still talking about it saying it was one of the best weddings they ever attended. As you promised, the food was amazing, the service from all your staff was superb, and the venue exceeded my expectations.
We had substituted a charcuterie board buffet for the antipasto bar due to allergies – it was awesome! My guests are still talking about it and especially the lamb chops. The dinner was better than that we had sampled at the tasting and the midnight buffet was a hit! The service staff were so attentive that our guests commented! – and how often does that happen?
-Susan Malenica

A Lasting Impression

Have been having the absolute pleasure of working with Vico and the rest of the amazing staff at Liuna Station in planning my upcoming wedding as well as my recent bridal shower! I do not have the words to begin to describe how amazing the service, food and atmosphere is at Liuna Station. I had my bridal shower in the King George and it was more beautiful then I could have imagined! The food was phenomenal and my guests were raving about it for days! Wth the amazing service I have already received, I know that my wedding will be amazing. Vico is such a pleasure to work with, he could answer any and all of my questions as well as making sure I was happy with every final decision that I have had to make for both the wedding and bridal shower! I can’t wait for my upcoming wedding which will be held in the Grand Central Ballroom and having the pleasure of working with the amazing staff at Liuna Station once again!
-Marina Matias

Worth the Drive!

Hosted my wedding reception in the Grand Ballroom a few years ago and I’m still getting compliments today on how amazing the food, service, and venue was. Both my family and wife’s family are located primarily in Vaughan (appox.1hr drive) and we decided to host our event in Hamilton at the beautiful Liuna Station. I’ve been in the wedding industry for 20 plus years and been a part of over 1000 weddings. With this large sample of venues at my disposal, Liuna Station stood out amongst all other venues when I made the important decision on where to host the wedding. In both my personal and professional opinion, Liuna Station is one of the BEST venues in ONTARIO!!! Special mention goes out to the entire office/management/operations staff – Vico, Josie, Nicole, Patty, Miranda, Sue, Kaitlan, Claudio, and the rest of them for being extra helpful and always professional.
-Marco Gismondi

Beautiful History

Jaw dropping beautiful! We took pictures of great grandchildren whose great grandfather arrived in Canada at the very same Station.
-Raymonde Masson

Impressing the Locals

Quite the deal. I grew [up] in east Hamilton and would not have thought a building like this existed downtown anymore. Parking was free around back. Place was clean, great acoustics and the staff was very professional.
-Dr. Steve Knighton

Unforgettable!

Our wedding was held at Liuna and we had an excellent experience. We used the King George Ballroom and the night was magical. Most of our guests described it as the best wedding they had ever been to. The food was better than most fine dining establishments and the service was incredible. Anything we needed to make us happy was taken care of, they were quick to make suggestions that made the whole day run smoothly. The only thing I wish I understood better was that the lighting in the room would be so amazing by using their recommended DJ. I had no idea going in that lighting would make such a difference. They should post some videos of a wedding so that more people can see how the night will really look. We used their DJ but I was surprised. Liuna did a fantastic job and really Patricia (who was our Mgr for the night) was amazing! Truly an unforgettable venue and service.
-Fran Lovie

Always Accommodating!

I just had my wedding this past weekend at Liuna Station and it was amazing! I had my ceremony there in the lobby and then my reception in the smaller continental express room. Liuna Station is a beautiful venue with lots of character. It’s a great place for a wedding just on looks alone. It is the service at Liuna that sets it apart though. Everyone was super helpful leading up to and on the day itself. I had a lot of dietary concerns that I needed to be accommodated and they were able to do it with no problems at all. The food was delicious and hot (which is a rarity for wedding food). There was someone from Liuna that was there for the entire reception who handled any setting up, questions, and any hiccups that may have arisen. This was especially helpful because it took a lot of pressure off of me as the bride. My only complaint, if you could even call it that, was that the food was delicious but it was a little too much. Everyone was bursting after dinner. Luckily you have the dancing after to burn it off. I also appreciated the fair prices. Pricing in Hamilton in general is fair and you get the same if not better service than you get in the GTA. I would highly recommend Liuna.
-Shelley Haslehurst

Hearing feedback from the wonderful people who have experienced all that Liuna Station has to offer is truly what makes this line of business so rewarding. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share such special Liuna Station memories. We look forward to reading your upcoming reviews and hearing your suggestions so that we can learn, improve, and move forward as we celebrate many more exquisite events this summer, and beyond!

This wedding screamed glamour and luxury from head to toe – we mean it – the bride walked down the aisle in a pair of gorgeous sparkly heels!

With soft pink accents, from the brides lipstick to the petals on the lovely floral arrangements, this wedding was all about attention to detail. Even the tablecloths boasted exquisite, floral embroidery. The mood was set with a sea of candles and beautiful, billowing drapery.

Canada is turning 150 years old on July 1st. For many Canadians, Canada Day is a time to dust off the barbecue, light up the fireworks and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends – and as much as we appreciate all of these traditions, Canada Day is also an important time of year to remember all of the reasons we have to be thankful for this country we call home.

So what exactly are we celebrating on Canada Day? Well, July 1st is a federal statutory holiday that celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, which is the date of the enactment of the Constitution Act.

Canada is big –we mean MASSIVE. Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories and the largest city in Canada is found right here in Ontario – Hamilton’s neighbor to the east, Toronto. Every year people from all over the world travel to the GTHA to experience so much of what Ontario has to offer. How lucky are we to have all of these world-famous tourist attractions in our very own backyard?!

Canada is home to over 35 million people, and thankfully we have a land mass of 9,970,610 square kilometers so we’ve always got lots of space to move around. You can really breathe out here!

Of those 35 million people, we’ve got a long list of famous Canadian athletes, musicians and movie stars including hockey “Great” Wayne Gretzky, singing legend Celine Dion and actors like the dreamy Ryan Gosling and funny-man Jim Carey. We also have an abundance of notable Canadian inventors to thank for so many of our modern day conveniences, like Alexander Graham Bell, inventor, engineer, and innovator who is introduce the first telephone in 1876. Medicinal insulin was invented by Frederick Banting, Charles Best and James Collip in 1922. The paint roller, the snow blower and the walkie-talkie were all also invented by Canadians!

Twenty percent of the world’s fresh water is in Canada, and we have more lakes than any other country. Water literally gives us life, and we could not be more thankful to be surrounded by so much glorious water! We’ve got mountains, prairies, trees and fields, roaring waterfalls and National Parks. We have so much natural beauty surrounding us but what we love the most is all of the people who call Canada home. It is all of you who give Canada the worldwide reputation of a being a welcoming, diverse and oh-so-friendly country, eh!

We hope you all enjoy your Canada Day long weekend, and that it is time well spent with family and friends. Between burgers and fireworks, don’t forget to take a moment to reflect and appreciate this wonderful country we call home!

Be sure to check out this week’s Liuna Gardens blog as we share our list of interesting facts and reasons why are so happy to call this spectacular country “home”.

Weddings really take the limelight this time of year but there are a lot of other pre-wedding celebrations that take place leading up to this magical day. For many brides, a bridal shower is a time for the most special women in the bride’s life to “shower” (as the name indicates) the lady of honour with love! At Liuna Station we enjoy being a part of these super fun “pre-wedding” festivities and we have an abundance of gorgeous spaces to host Bridal showers of all shapes and sizes. For all of you who have been tasked with planning a bridal shower for a friend or family member, we thought it would be fun to share some ideas for throwing a fabulously unique bridal shower.

Pick a theme!

Has the bride to be always dreamed of travelling to Paris? Why not take her there, with a Parisian themed shower! We’re envisioning a chic dress code, red lipstick, perhaps some relaxing French music to set the mood? Keep the bride in mind when you’re picking a theme. Is she a foodie? A book lover? A fashionista? Whatever the bride is into, picking a theme great way to create the framework for the bridal shower and it gives everyone helping out with the planning process a clear picture and sense of direction.

Think Outside the Box

Bridal showers often come along with the reputation of having corny (and sometimes boring!) games. Try to incorporate some more interactive activities that don’t leave guests yawning. One of our favourites is “Words of Advice”. Have all of the shower guests write their best words of wisdom on pretty paper for the bride as she is about to embark on her journey into marital bliss. Have guests write their name on the back so that the bride doesn’t know who gave which advice. The bride must then read through the notes out loud (this is fun!) and pick her favourite words of wisdom. At the end of it, the bride is left with wonderful mementos and helpful notes from all of her favourite women.

We also love the idea of getting the groom involved. In advance of the shower, ask the groom a series of questions about his relationship with the bride to be – When did you meet? Where was your first date? Who said I love you first? Who is the better cook? etc. Record his answers and on the day of the shower, ask the bride the same list of questions and after she gives her response, play the answers of the groom-to-be. This is a great game full of laughs, and it is a fun way for the women who may not know the groom as well to learn more about him!

All Are Welcome!

Speaking of men…it doesn’t have to be ALL about the bride! Why not throw a co-ed shower? Some brides have many special men in their life that they would like to share this day with too, so what better option than to open the invitation to all!

Timing is Everything

Sunday afternoons are very common for Bridal showers, but why not mix it up a little with a Saturday evening event? Is the bride-to-be a night owl? Think outside the box and plan an evening affair! We love this idea because it gives everyone the chance to relax and unwind on Sunday.

A New Way to Gift

These days, so many couples have already got their pots and pans and household items in check well before their wedding day approaches, so why not shower the couple with a different kind of gift – the gift of experiences! We love the idea of contributing to a couple’s first adventure as husband and wife – the honeymoon. The couple can provide a list of excursions, museum visits, dinners –whatever they have their sights set on for their honeymoon and each shower guest can contribute to making that experience all the more attainable. While the couple is away, they can send a post card thank you note to each person who helped make their honeymoon experience so special. So whether it’s a romantic dinner in Italy or zip lining through a jungle in Bali, the family and friends of the couple will know exactly how their contribution was enjoyed by the happy couple – How great is that?!

We’d love to chat with you about planning a unique and extraordinary bridal shower, so get in touch with us today to discuss how we can make your next dream event come to life at Liuna Station.

At Liuna Station, family comes first. We’d like to think that we appreciate our fathers every day of the year, but since it’s officially Father’s Day today, we wanted to make an extra effort to make sure all of the Dads out there know just how appreciated they are. Today, we think about all of the fathers, grandfathers, husbands, hardworking single Moms balancing both roles, the fathers who are no longer with us and for the men stepping up every day to take on the role of a father figure in any capacity. To all of the special men in our lives, we’d simply like to say, “Thanks”.

We recently caught up with Richard, a father to two daughters with nearly 35 years of fatherhood under his belt. We asked Richard what advice he has for soon-to-be new Dads, his favourite father-daughter memory and what it was like being the only man in a house full of women.

LS: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

RD: I have been married to the same woman for over 40 years (yes, she must have the patience of Job). We have two very successful daughters – both personally and professionally. I came to Canada as a young child. My wife is fifth generation Canadian. We both have post-graduate degrees and have had lengthy careers in our respective professional fields.

LS: What is your favourite part about being a Dad?

RD: That changes over time e.g. when my daughters were first born, it was fun to watch them take their various first steps like crawling, speaking, walking etc. It was also a lot of fun showing them off in public quite frankly. When they were older I really enjoyed taking them on holidays and exploring new areas be they in Canada or the States or overseas. It is immensely satisfying to see your children become good, contributing citizens to this country. Babies don’t come with instruction handbooks – it very often is learn-as-you-go. As a parent, you cross your fingers, do your best and hope they turn out alright.

LS: What has been the most challenging part?

RD: Their mother would obviously disagree, but for me the most challenging part (there have been very few) would be trying to coordinate my work schedule with the girls’ activity schedules especially when they were younger. There were probably a number of lesser challenges that I was not aware of that were taken care of by their mother.

LS: What was it like being the only man in a house full of women?

RD: Since I have known nothing else as a parent, everything has always seemed quite normal. I think I inherited my mother’s sensitive side so that probably helped me to understand the moods swings etc. as my girls were growing up. I have often commented to others that I have a well-developed feminine side thanks to living in a house full of women.

LS: Can you tell us one of your favourite father-daughter memories?

RD: For both girls one such memory would be attending their respective graduations from University. There are many, many great travel memories with the girls too – singularly one would be snorkeling with our older daughter in Fiji, one would be meeting up with our younger daughter in Paris part way through her time backpacking & training through Europe. As a family it would include the four of us sitting on a bench high in the Swiss Alps, looking out over the valley below signing the Beatles song that includes the words “… there are places I remember, all my life …”.

LS: What advice to you have for soon-to-be new Dads?

RD: My advice would be pitch in, help out and enjoy every moment – and take lots of pictures. Our children grow up so very quickly – scary quickly in fact. I would also say, teach them to be independent thinkers, teach them to chart and follow their own path. It is trite to say, but give them wings and let them fly. Your attitude should be, if you are happy, I am happy – whether it is a career choice, or a boyfriend or something as mundane as a hairstyle. Don’t try to re-live your life through them. Mistakes and missteps are bound to happen. That’s how we all learn – that’s an integral part of growing up.

LS: What are the biggest lessons you hope your daughters have learned from you?

RD: Biggest lessons – hmmm. Appreciate what you have and how much effort and sacrifice you, and others had to make to get there. Remember that there will always be people who have more than you and people who will have less than you. Treat people with respect. Be true to yourself. Be kind and generous without any expectation of acknowledgement or reward.

LS: How will you be celebrating Father’s Day this year?

RD: My one daughter took me out to lunch yesterday since she could not make it out today (Father’s Day). My other daughter and her partner will be joining my wife and me for an early dinner. Father’s Day is not one day a year for me – it truly is everyday.

We’d like to thank Richard for taking some time to chat with us today and for his wonderful words of advice. Again, Happy Father’s Day to all of you men out there, making one of the hardest (but most rewarding) jobs around, look easy.
