LS: Can you tell us a bit about AMV Weddings, and your role in the company?    

NK: AMV is not just a video, and photo company – we are a “Wedding Production House.” Our experienced team of Event Coordinators, DJs, Photographers and Videographers will help plan, produce and capture your wedding with the perfect balance of creativity and professionalism. AMV understands how important this day is to you – and our commitment to understanding the unique needs of your wedding ensures you’ll be able to remember and re-experience your wedding at the highest possible quality.

I am one of the event coordinators with the company, I have been with AMV for over 3 years and absolutely love my job! My role starts right at the beginning when I get to meet all  of our bride and grooms at the beginning of their wedding planning. At AMV every package can be customized to the bride and grooms personal needs and expectations. Once the package is created we schedule engagement shoots, bridal shower shoots, planner meetings and make sure our bride and grooms are completely ready for the big day! And then lights camera action and our team shows up ready to capture all of their wedding memories. LS: As technology continues to evolve, what do you foresee in the wedding photography, videography and entertainment industry?

NK: We see it getting better and better every year. At AMV we strive to keep learning and evolving with the technology. We have numerous seminars with our team to make sure we understand and know how to use the amazing new technology offered to us. We have been in the business for over 15 years and we cannot wait to see the new technology that comes with every year. You never know maybe one day instead of same day edits we will be doing bride and groom holographic images.

LS: For readers looking for entertainment /photography support, what do you suggest to look for prior to booking?

NK: We at AMV cannot stress this enough make sure that the vendor you are hiring has back up photographers/videographers/DJs on call for your big day and also back up equipment. We have heard horror stories where the team does not show up on the day of the wedding because of sickness or whatever it may be so that is why we always have on call staff and back up gear ready for every event. This is a one time event so better safe then sorry it was we always say.

LS: What are key features AMV Weddings provides for people who need your services for their wedding day?

NK:  We provide not only reliability and amazing quality but we also our known for our amazing Same Day Edits where we allow our bride and grooms to choose a song and we edit a glimpse of their mornings, ceremony, photo shoot and first dance and actually show it that day!! We also always have two photographers and two videographers for every couple so we do not miss a thing. Our event coordinators also help with the planning of your day and make sure we assign the best team for your unique wedding needs.

LS: With so many weddings companies in the GTHA, what sets AMV Weddings apart from others?

NK: Unlike other wedding companies we believe every bride and grooms has their own unique vision and look for their wedding day so we make sure we schedule the right photographers or videographers for the job. Most companies also do not have back up teams on call or back of gear ready to go at any time on your big day. The main difference is reliably and quality!

LS: Can you share with us your favourite event you supported at LIUNA Station?

NK: We have done so many events at LIUNA Station it would definitely be hard to pick only one! We would say every wedding/event at LIUNA Station is our favourite we love working with the amazing teams at LIUNA Station.

LS: With all your years of experience in the wedding industry, what is the biggest lesson AMV Weddings has learned?

NK: Since we have been in the industry for over 15 years we have seen a lot and learned even more. The most important thing that we have learned is you can never have enough people on call and that every wedding is unique and different so you should treat it as such.

LS: What is one of your favourite spots to shoot at LIUNA Station?

ADB: Without question, my favourite spot to shoot at LIUNA Station is the buildings front façade. The entrance way commands attention with large Doric columns and stone carvings. It serves as an elegant backdrop for both wedding parties and intimate newlywed portraits.  One of the best features of this location is revealed later in the evening. As the sun begins to set, the front of the station is positioned perfectly to take in the golden hour, while utilizing the warm glow produced at this time for some additional couples portraits.

LS: How do you get ready for the day of a big shoot?

ADB: The day before each wedding I begin by reaching out to my couple one last time with final advice, well wishes, and virtual hugs. From there I begin my wedding prep. I start by cleaning and charging all of my equipment. I then print out copies of the wedding timeline and any additional documents that may be needed (family formal shot list, location permits etc.). Last, I pack a bag of snacks and water bottles for both my assistant and I to snack on throughout the day.

LS: What makes for a smooth session with Bride, Groom and wedding party?

ADB: The key to a smooth session regardless of whom is in front of my lens, is comfort. By creating an atmosphere on the day of a shoot, that allows for a subject to let loose and be comfortable, genuine reactions and expressions come out. Laughter and Dad jokes always help with this!

LS: Do you always have a back-up plan for weather, equipment failure, etc.?

ADB: It is extremely important to have a back up plan, especially when it comes to weddings. Keeping this in mind, I chat with all couples ahead of time to establish a rain plan, should there be inclement weather come the day they are wed. I also bring multiple clear umbrellas with me to all shoots. Should there be light rain that is manageable to photograph in, I encourage my couples and their wedding party to stick it out and utilize the umbrellas.  When it comes to my equipment I always bring back up gear to weddings.

LS: What is something Brides and Grooms (and other clients) should know when working with you?

ADB: I love to capture joy and genuine smiles in my images. That said, I’m not afraid to crack a ridiculous joke or do a silly dance if it means I’m going to get some laughter and real smiles in response. My biggest piece of advice for couples pertaining to their photography would be to trust your photographer, enjoy the process and open up. Just be yourself! It makes for raw, real imagery that is unique to you and your relationship.

Party Décor – This year, like most, large foil balloon bouquets are a must! Whether spelling your name or noting the year 2018, this is a very popular choice and one that never goes out of style.  There are also various forms of flowers as bouquets or centerpieces, that you can get either in your favourite colour, or in traditional school branded colours. We LOVE handmade wood signs and chalkboards with “CONGRATULATIONS” written in big bold capital letters.  Some people opted for a memory wall showing your adorable life stages, and others had little cards put out for your peers and elders to write on and drop in a bowl with ‘words of wisdom’ or their loving wishes for your future ahead.

Food – Many like keeping it light and fresh with a plethora of snacks, appetizers along with a candy bar, or a new trendy donut bar! These beautiful spreads can accommodate numbers easily, fit outside or in, and can roll with the weather.  Some new trends are food trucks for super easy and convenient meals, you can just have a cool little truck pull up outside serving you Mexican, Italian, Asian cuisine – and the list goes on! And oh, don’t forget about the amazing sweets, because everyone loves cupcakes!  

Gifts – Gift cards for grocery stores, restaurants and big-box retailers are always big, but there are also frying pans, dish sets and vacuums (things you’ll need when you move out on your own), and some fun things like board or card games to play with your future roomies!

However you decided to celebrate your graduation, the one thing we hope you will walk away with, and always remember is how loved you truly are.

SO) What inspires you to keep things new and fresh?

SD) We passionately believe that flowers bring joy and happiness to any event. Our designers have their masters in European design and we continue to send them around the world for inspiration.  Every designer has a niche and passion and we nurture that passion to allow full creativity.

LS) What is one thing a client should know when working with a florist?

SD) Be open and allow the designers some creative freedom- it’s all in the details.

LS) What was your most memorable event?

SD) Our most memorable event was honouring a bride and groom in hospice. We were able to bring joy and beauty at such a difficult time. We received a last minute call from hospice and every team member stopped in their tracks to be a part of this day. This memory, though simple, is still very dear to our hearts.

LS) What are your favourite pieces to work with at an event?

SD) Anything that allows us to showcase our creativity! Whether it be arbour installations, bridal bouquets or gala arrangements, we love it all!

LS: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your husband?

RM: Nicholas and I are a fun loving, down to earth couple that loves to go on adventures! We are the happiest when we are surrounded by our family and friends.

LS: How did Nicholas pop the question?

RM: My husband made our proposal very special. He secretly worked behind the scenes and made a short film which he inserted into the previews of a current movie. We went to the movie theatre like any normal Saturday. Nicholas made sure that we got to the movies really early so we could get good seats. As we waited for the previews to start he was all nervous and jittery. We patiently waited. Then all of sudden he was on the big screen, I can’t even remember what was said in the video, but there was my leading man down on one knee!

LS: There are so many wedding and event venues out there – what made LIUNA Station stand out among the rest?

RM: Out of all the venues we researched LIUNA made us feel that they were going to take care of all of our needs. They answered all of our questions and calmed all of our concerns. Also LIUNA is absolutely beautiful and fit our theme Gatsby Miami nights perfectly!

LS: Tell us about your experience working with your suppliers/vendors?

RM: All of my vendors were a dream to work with. Each and every vendor took the time to listen to our thoughts and concerns. They ensured we worked as a team to make the day perfect. My wedding planner Vivian was simply amazing. She ensured all my ideas came to life in the most amazing way. She coordinated the entire day!

LS: Describe the meal that was served on your wedding day?

RM: We had the premium antipasto bar to start. The pasta was fazzolletti served in a Genovese sauce, entree was a fillet mignon served with a jumbo prawn, wild mushroom risotto and grilled veggies. Our dessert was a double chocolate caramel cheesecake. Everything was so delicious, I wouldn’t have changed any of the details of the menu! Nicholas drink was a Manhattan and mine was a Aperol Spritz.

LS: Drooling…

LS: Describe the quality of service you received at LIUNA Station?

RM: Honestly, everything on the big day was perfect! All LIUNA staff members made sure everything was executed without a hitch.

LS: Looking back, what would you say is your favourite memory from your special day?

RM: Every time Nicholas and I think back to our wedding day, we always talk about the first time we saw each other at the church. It was one of the most emotional part of our day. We were celebrating our love for one another in front of all our family and friends.

LS: Would you recommend LIUNA Station to a friend for his or her next event? If so, why?

RM: Absolutely! LIUNA worked with my husband and I to make our day so special. The staff ensured all the details were perfect.

✔ Ensure you have a schedule for all day/evening events so that you can prioritize.

✔ Make sure you have provided a shot list, for example from the front desk/registration, event signage (free advertising), host/speakers, organizers, VIP’s etc. Basically whoever you want pictures of make sure they make it on your shot list.  Also remind the photographer that it’s important to get the feeling of the event. After it’s all said and done capturing candid shots are a must!

✔ It’s a photographers job to ensure they have what they need (and then some) but don’t forget to save a place for setup, tear down and store extra gear. Also provide plenty of time to be able to get camera ready.

✔ Taking names is a must! Make sure your photographer grabs the names of people in single or group shots for social media purposes or for use later on in publication, websites, etc.  

Lastly, some cool and innovative ideas to set your photos apart from just any old corporate event could be to use a drone. This popular device captures dramatic angles and aerial views of large groups.  GoPro is another option, as it adds a personal touch with someone who knows the event better than anyone else!

The first thing to remember is that each business or brand has a unique personality and your event must showcase that. The decor or type of menu you decide are important, but it’s the preparation and consistency of theme which allows the event personality to come through. Figure out what your theme is, stick to it, and ensure your company’s event goal doesn’t get lost.

Plan ahead for a smooth registration

First impressions are everything. To ensure a smooth registration, appoint a greeter to the door to direct foot traffic and have them keep an electronic copy of attendees to check off as they arrive. For an easy way to keep track of guest’s attendance, Evite is a website that creates, sends, and manages invitations. Set an RSVP date so that you have a confirmed number of guests. Excel is another tool you can use for registration, a simple control F for guests last name will ensure you capture all your attendance in a timely manner. If there will be guests with special needs, ensure the space is accessible and that everyone can be accommodated. Questions to keep in mind for those travelling, will there be parking or transportation available? Are there nearby hotels?

Food and Beverage

It’s an event planner’s job to ensure not only a successful program takes place, but a delicious meal is served. Provide a variety of choices, while keeping guest’s preferences in mind, and remember stick to your theme. Have guest’s notify you of any allergies upon confirming their attendance? Discuss with your caterer about alternatives for all dietary requirements.  Don’t forget to think of logistics around how the food will be served – is it buffet style or sit-down? Will there be wine tasting or appetizers? Don’t forget to include time for eating in your itinerary. If speakers are presenting, ensure guests don’t sit with dirty plates while listening!

Lighting and sound

When preparing for a corporate event, an event planner must consider audio visuals. How lighting and sound are employed will have a great effect on the outcome of your corporate event. Do speakers need AV requirements in their presentation? Possible equipment includes microphones, projectors, sound systems, screens, wifi, special lighting etc. Make an inventory– be sure you’re equipped with all the supplies needed to avoid potential problems with technical setup. Testing everything beforehand is never a bad idea. We also suggest to have a charging station for your guests. Outlets are often limited at venues, and your guests will love you.
